Khichdi the Tamil way!

This is a Khichdi made in my family for breakfast. We call it paruppu saadham at home. It has got a lovely flavour and i like it when it ishot. My grandma adds a tomato whereas i don’t.

Do try this out, it is a reaalll comfort food.

Ingredients
Raw Rice – 1 cup
Tuvar Dhal – 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Onion – 1 chopped lengthwise
Green Chillies – 3 slit
Garlic – 5 whole cloves
Cardamom – 2
Cinnamon – 1 small piece
Cloves – 2
Patta leaf – 1
Salt to taste

Method
Wash the rice and dhal and soak it for 5 to 10 mins. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and a let the patta leaf, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves splutter. Add in the chopped onions, garlic and green chillies and saute for a while. Now add in the rice and the dhal with a pinch of turmeric.

Add 3 cups of water and close the lid. Let it for 3 whistles and remove from fire. Serve it with pickle or curd

I always thought kichadi means its used to mkae in rava . Yours look interesting and never heard about this version. Looks like easy to make with few ingredients.
